The rise and fall of the cheeses of Suffolk from 1300 to the present day.
With names such as Bang, Thump and Trip, the story of cheese making in Suffolk encompasses social history, chemistry, ethics and fashion. The presentation tells the story of my journey to find and recreate the lost cheeses of Suffolk and invent some of my own, to make a perfect Suffolk cheese board. Along the way, Pepys, Defoe and others wrote everything from diary entries to poems deriding the product and as cheese making gave way to butter making, people were taken to court and deported.
Now cheese making is rising again with new producers around the county offering their modern take on Suffolk cheese. My own efforts at making cheese vary from the very successful to outright disasters!
Options of talks with demos will include butter or mozzarella making, with tasting includes a platter of modern Suffolk cheeses to share and discuss.
